After reading the italian versionI think Milo Manara is one of the best italian artist. I loved works like "Il gioco" (Click!), "Il profumo dell'invisibile" or the new incredible adventure of G.Bergman, "a riveder le stelle" ("To see the stars"). "WWW" is just a little, but very nice, sexy story. If you are a Manara's fan don't miss this comic book!

Cooking With Herbs and Spices
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (January, 1990)
Average review score:

Solid Reading on the History and Use of Herbs and SpicesOriginally published in 1950, this classic book continues to be published because of its valuable information.
This is a book of lists and recipes and more lists.
Want to know what herbs are best with desserts, eggs, cheeses? How about how to candy angelica or pickle nasturtium seeds?
Want to make herbal mustards, vinegars, stuffings?
It is all here.

Ok, there are no photos.
But, once you start reading, the quality of information and the sheer quantity of it will make you forget about pretty pictures. Plus, most of the recipes are made with easy to find ingredients (after all it was 1950) and require little time to prepare.

Division and Square Root
Published in Hardcover by Kluwer Academic Publishers (15 January, 1994)
Average review score:

Almost the only one about the subjectWhile being involved with this subject I had a lot of difficulties in finding specialized books. There are a lot of articles and some surveys, but very few books and this is a pretty good one. It's not an easy reading, it does not go fully into the details, and of course the research has made several steps since it was published, but it's anyway a MUST if you deal with hardware division algorithms.

How to Run a Successful Meeting in Half the Time
Published in Audio Cassette by Simon & Schuster (Trade Division) (06 December, 1999)
Average review score:

A LOT better that I expected! This is a surprisingly useful book. It is a quick read (about an hour or two); the basic format is a question, answer, and illustrative anecdote. I was pleased with the stories presented in the book and picked up a number of pointers. While the book starts out a bit on the obvious side (Q: When should you call a meeting? A: When a meeting is the best way to achieve your objective.), it moves into some though provoking issues such as dealing with interruptions, staggering attendance for optimum use of peoples' time, how to deal with those who want to go into depth on everything, etc. While some of the material on audio/visual material is amusingly out of date, the principles behind them are sound. The corporate world would be better off if everyone read and applied the principles found in this book.

The Hungry Billy Goat (Rookie Readers. Level B)
Published in School & Library Binding by Children's Book Press (March, 1989)
Average review score:

The Hungry Goat...This book is about a goat that is always eating things. When he was young the goat was small and the owner loved him like a kid. The goat ate everything in sight like grass, nails, bark on trees, bugs, jars, cans, and shirts. The owner was mad when the goat ate the shirts and put him on train tracks. The goat saw the train coming and burped the shirts up to flag the train down. The train called the police and put the goat in jail. Read the book to find out what happened to the goat.
I liked this book because of the ending and the colorful pictures. Katie V.

Memory

Insight into Manara's techniques if you're an artistIn addition to Manara's usual luscious artwork, this volume offers some insight into his drawing techniques. As a figure artist, I was particularly interested in the "work-in-progress" pages, showing his ink-over-pencil drawing technique, and also the way that he pencils his figures. I withheld one star in my recommendation, because I'd have liked to have seen some written discussion of his techniques (albeit difficult in a multi-lingual book!). Nonetheless, it's unusual for a successful commercial artist (who actually makes a living from his work, as opposed to professing to instruct others how to do so!) to share even this much of his 'trade secrets'.
Sure: the book is definitely 'adult' in nature. However, since figure artists spend most of their time drawing nudes, that shouldn't be a problem, right?

A True Picture of Emigration
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nebraska Pr (April, 1987)
Average review score:

A true story of emigration in the 1830sThe book is about the emigration of the Burlend family from rural England to the wilds of Illinois in the 1830s. It gives us a glimpse into the life of this family through the eyes of Rebecca Burlend...the decisions to be made, the sorrow of leaving home for the unknown, and the hardships they would face once they arrived in the new world. As a decendent of this courageous woman and her family, I am proud to recommend this book.

Turnaround: A Memoir
Published in Hardcover by Villard Books (February, 1994)
Average review score:

Memoirs of a masterful filmmakerIf you are a fan of the films of Milos Forman then you owe it to yourself to read his memoirs. This book offers fascinating insight into his childhood tragedies and subsequent journeys into Eastern European and Western filmmaking.
I won my copy of this book at a silent auction midway through the filming of Forman's "The People Vs. Larry Flynt", and Mister Forman was kind enough to personalize and autograph it for me. What a great guy!
Not everyone's life would make for an interesting set of memoirs. Probably not yours, and certainly not mine. But Forman's does. Grab it, read it, enjoy it.
I have liked the style of Milo Manara for a few years now. I love how he draws faces, and i developed a similar kind of style from him, doing fashion sketches.
This is a great book, beautifully drawn, and for anyone who likes to at least look at great art.
